TPWD Stocks Rainbow Trout in Concho River in Downtown San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stocked rainbow trout in the Concho River in downtown San Angelo on Tuesday for the final time in 2025.

The fish were stocked at the Oakes Street Lake, 396 S. Irving St.

The TPWD planned to stock 2,600 trout at the site during four planned dates from Nov. 26 to Feb. 20.

It doesn’t take a lot of sophisticated fishing equipment to reel in a rainbow trout. They can be caught using simple, light-tackle or hand-tied flies on a fly rod. However, anglers should keep an array of baits and lures nearby as well as ice to keep trout fresh. Rainbow trout are an attractive, tasty fish, and anglers can easily find recipes online.

TPWD plans to stock 335,048 rainbow trout in Texas through March 6. Because rainbow trout are unable to survive in most areas of Texas after winter due to the warm water temperatures, anglers are encouraged to keep up to their daily bag limit of five trout.

Other sites being stocked in the area include Knierim Lake in Bronte, Ruddick Park in Colorado City, South Llano River State Park in Junction, and the Llano River at FM 2389 outside Mason.
