WASHINGTON — The White House announced this week that the Trump administration will provide $12 billion in economic assistance to American farmers using a portion of federal revenue collected through tariffs.
In a post shared by the White House, the president said the funding will come from “a small portion of the hundreds of billions of dollars we receive in tariffs” and will be directed toward economic relief for farmers.
The announcement stated the investment is intended to support domestic farm production and help reduce grocery prices for American families.
U.S. Rep. August Pfluger of Texas said the funding will provide “much needed relief to America’s farmers and ranchers.” In a public statement, Pfluger thanked both the president and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins for the investment in agriculture.
“As a seventh generation Texan from a farming family, this fight is personal,” Pfluger said. “I’ll always stand up for the people who keep our country fed, our families clothed, and our economy running.”
The White House described farmers as “the backbone of this country” in its public messaging surrounding the announcement.
