STEPHENVILLE, TX — The Richland Springs Coyotes are headed back to the state final after an impressive 66-20 win over Strawn on Saturday at Art Briles Stadium in Stephenville.
No. 3 Richland Springs will face defending state champion No. 1 Jayton, winners of 29 straight games, in the Class 1A Division II state final Dec. 17 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
It’s the Coyotes’ first time returning to the state final since 2020, when they lost to Balmorhea.
Richland Springs’ nine state titles is the most of any six-man team in Texas history, but the Coyotes haven’t won it all since 2019.
It was a matchup of one-loss teams Saturday, but No. 6 Strawn was no match for Richland Springs, which nearly ended the game by halftime before putting the Greyhounds away early in the third quarter.
Strawn's season ended with a record of 12-2.
Richland Springs will take a 12-1 record into the state final against 14-0 Jayton, which knocked out No. 2 Klondike 64-19 in its semifinal.
