COLORADO CITY, TX — A 61-year-old Louisiana man was killed Wednesday night in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Mitchell County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened at 9:05 p.m. on Dec. 3 near milepost 221. DPS reported that a 2024 Chevrolet 1500 pickup was traveling west on I-20 when it approached standstill traffic caused by power line maintenance. The pickup’s driver, identified as James B. Creighton of Many, Louisiana, attempted to brake and take evasive action but struck the towed trailer of a Volvo truck tractor ahead of him.
Creighton was pronounced deceased at the scene. He had been wearing a seatbelt.
The Volvo truck, towing a 2018 Great Dane semi-trailer, was driven by a 32-year-old man from Grand Prairie. He and a 51-year-old passenger from Fort Worth were not injured. Both were wearing seatbelts.
DPS said the pickup overturned after the impact and came to rest on the right side of the roadway. Weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit in the area is 75 mph.
