DPS: One Person Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on I-20 in Nolan County

ROSCOE, TX — A three-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Nolan County left one driver dead Wednesday evening, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said the crash happened at 5:20 p.m. on Nov. 26 at the intersection of I-20 and Farm to Market Road 608. One person was killed, and two others suffered minor injuries.

Troopers identified the deceased driver as Christopher Cardoza, 33, of Roscoe. He was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and was pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Angie Collier. DPS noted he was not wearing a seat belt.

According to investigators, Cardoza was driving south on FM 608 and turning left onto the south service road of I-20 when his truck struck a northbound Kia Soul driven by a 49-year-old woman of Maryneal. She was wearing a seat belt and was taken to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

After hitting the Kia, the Silverado continued up an embankment and over a guardrail onto eastbound I-20, where it collided with a 2000 Peterbilt truck tractor driven by a 58-year-old man from New Lenox, Illinois. He was also wearing a seat belt and was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial with minor injuries.

The crash sent the semi off the roadway, through the guardrails, down an embankment, and came to a stop in a parking lot off the south service road.

DPS reported the roadway was dry and weather conditions were clear at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit in the area is 75 mph.
