SAN ANGELO, TX — The annual Tamale Fest returns to the Pop Art Museum, 125 W. Twohig Ave, in downtown San Angelo on Saturday, Nov. 8, bringing a full day of tamales, music and community celebration from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Hosted by UP Positive Promotions, the event will feature more than 40 vendors, five tamale makers, and multiple contests, including a tamale-eating competition and a cook-off with awards for best authentic tamale, best original tamale, people’s choice and judge’s choice.
Entertainment throughout the day will include DJ Mirage, the “big head” costumed performers, and Lake View High School’s Mariachi Los Caciques. The schedule includes the tamale-eating contest at noon, DJ Mirage at 1 p.m., big head performers at 2 p.m. and Mariachi Los Caciques at 4 p.m.
Admission is free. Guests can also purchase a $35 “VIP passport” for a sample from each tamale vendor and a commemorative T-shirt.
Tamale Fest was created to celebrate San Angelo’s diverse food culture and local creativity, offering everything from traditional pork and chicken tamales to unique flavors like bean and cheese, jalapeño popper and even candy tamales.
