PECOS COUNTY, TX — A rig floor collapse at a Petro-Hunt Permian Basin worksite in Pecos County has led to a lawsuit after an oilfield worker was critically injured and rushed into surgery, according to court filings.
The petition, filed in Dallas County, states that Jesus Hernandez was working below or near the rig floor on Oct. 24 when the structure “suddenly and without warning” collapsed, crushing him. Attorneys say Hernandez has undergone multiple surgeries and remains hospitalized indefinitely.
The lawsuit, brought by Houston-based Zehl & Associates, accuses Petro-Hunt, L.L.C., and Petro-Hunt Permian, LLC of failing to maintain safe operations, properly train personnel, and take reasonable steps to prevent the collapse. The suit alleges negligence and gross negligence and seeks more than $1 million in damages.
Hernandez’s wife, Lexus Hernandez, is also listed as a plaintiff, seeking damages for loss of consortium and household services.
The filing requests a temporary restraining order to prevent Petro-Hunt from altering or removing equipment, digital records, or any physical evidence at the site while the investigation continues. Attorneys argue that modifying the area could hinder efforts to determine the cause.
