SAN ANGELO, TX — A vehicle crash Tuesday night near Goodnight Trail and Cox Lane left one person evaluated by paramedics and caused a power outage affecting more than 270 AEP customers, according to first responders and AEP Texas.
Fire dispatch audio stated that a red vehicle struck a light pole around 7:30 p.m., knocking out power to nearby homes. The vehicle rolled over and landed upside down. Fire crews said the driver had already climbed out of the vehicle before their arrival. San Angelo Fire Department units responded and confirmed there was one occupant, who self-extricated and was checked by EMS.
As of 8 p.m., AEP Texas listed the cause of the outage as a vehicle crash with an estimated restoration time of 10:30 p.m. The company’s outage map showed 273 customers without power in the affected neighborhood near the Ben Ficklin Road corridor.
The San Angelo Police Department issued an advisory shortly before 8 p.m. urging drivers to avoid the area of Cox Lane and Ben Ficklin Road for the next several hours while crews worked the scene.
