No. 2 Wall Too Much for Grape Creek

WALL, TX — A lengthy rain delay on a stormy Friday night did not stop the district clash between the No. 2 Wall Hawks and their cross-town rivals, the Grape Creek Eagles. Throughout the pouring rain, Wall controlled the line of scrimmage from start to finish to claim a 48-0 victory.

Hear from Wall's Head Coach, Craig Slaughter, below:

After waiting more than 2.5 hours for kickoff, the Wall Hawks shook off some of the slow starts earlier this season with an opening touchdown against the Eagles. Hagyn Barbee punched the football into the end zone to give Wall a 7-0 advantage early.

Grape Creek's rushing attack had some early success, but Wall proved why they have one of the best defenses in 3A football, and kept the Eagles out of the end zone for the entire game.

Wall's Jager Thompson had himself a huge first half. York found Thompson on three different touchdown passes in the first two quarters to put the game out of reach.

In the second half, Grape Creek ran into a few miscues with two fumbles, one that led to a Wall touchdown, and a snap over the quarterback's head that killed a drive.

Wall continued to score in the second half until, with nine minutes left in the 4th quarter, another lightning delay paused the game. After a brief talk between Wall's Coach Slaughter and Grape Creek's Coach Thiel, the two agreed to call the game there and then. Wall claimed victory, 48-0.

Next up, the Wall Hawks enter their Bye Week. The Grape Creek Eagles return to action on Friday, October 31, when the Eagles host Merkel.
