San Angelo Man Killed in Head-On Crash Near Barnhart

 

BARNHART, TX — A San Angelo man was killed and another man from Boerne was seriously injured following a two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon in Irion County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

It happened about 4:30 p.m. Oct. 17 on U.S. 67 and North 1st Street in Barnhart. A preliminary investigation found that a 2008 Mitsubishi Raider was traveling westbound on U.S. 67 leaving Barnhart when it crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado head-on.

The driver of the Silverado, identified as David Brent Poindexter, 52, of San Angelo, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Donna Smith.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Christopher Michael Wheeler, 52, of Boerne, was transported to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo with serious injuries.

DPS Trooper Reyes of the San Angelo Highway Patrol is investigating. Weather was clear and road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.
