SAN ANGELO, TX — Reigning PRCA world champion tie-down roper Riley Webb will take on four-time world champ Caleb Smidt in the match roping event at the Cinch Roping Fiesta next week.
It’s a rematch from last year’s event, when Smidt beat Webb by just 0.7 seconds to win the $20,000 prize.
Webb has won back-to-back world titles and is currently the No. 1-ranked roper in the world.
Smidt won world titles in 2015, 2018, 2021 and 2022 before retiring from full-time rodeoing last year.
The two will square off in a format that includes 12 runs.
The Yellowhouse Machinery Match Roping will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Outdoor Fiesta Arena. Entry is located through the northeast side of the CRC Roofers Coliseum parking lot.
The open tie-down roping event, which will be held at the same time, includes 35 ropers with big names like Shad Mayfield and Henry Kincade (the world’s No. 2- and 3-ranked ropers, respectively), along with San Angelo’s trio of NFR qualifiers — Ty Harris, Joel Harris, and Dylan Hancock.
