Ballinger Forced to Cancel School Due to Water Issues

BALLINGER, TX — A water leak in Ballinger has caused the town’s schools to cancel classes for the day.

The leak initially occurred Monday in a water main at the intersection of 6th Street and Avenue B due to a contractor working in the area, according to the City of Ballinger.

Many residents experienced very low water pressure or none at all throughout much of the afternoon and evening.

A boil-water notice was also issued for the town.

City of Ballinger water crews were able to fix the leak late Monday night.

However, the clamp that was installed did not hold, and a smaller leak occurred Tuesday. The City of Ballinger announced it would cut out the damaged section and replace it with PVC, beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The process was expected to take less than four hours.

The decision was made Tuesday evening to have schools tentatively scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, but Ballinger ISD made the decision at about 9 a.m. to cancel classes for the day.

Schools are scheduled to resume at normal time Thursday if water service has been restored.
