SAN ANGELO, TX - City Manager Daniel Valenzuela announced his intention to retire during the Oct. 7 city council meeting, formally providing a one-year notice. His retirement will take effect Oct. 31, 2026.
With the assistance of a recruiting firm, the city council will soon begin the search for Valenzuela’s successor, according to information provided by the city. Details about the recruitment process and transition plan will be announced at an upcoming council meeting.
“I have been continually humbled by the dedication, professionalism and compassion of the people who make San Angelo such a special place,” Valenzuela said. “From our city council members and city staff to the many residents, partners and organizations committed to our shared success.”
Valenzuela has served as San Angelo’s city manager since 2012, overseeing more than a decade of growth, infrastructure improvements and community development. His tenure has included major capital projects, strategic planning initiatives and a focus on fiscal responsibility.
Mayor Tom Thompson praised Valenzuela’s leadership and dedication to public service.
“Daniel has been more than a city manager – he’s been a trusted advisor and a steady presence through every chapter of our city’s growth,” Mayor Tom Thompson said. “His integrity, calm leadership and deep commitment to San Angelo have made a lasting impression on me and on everyone who’s had the privilege to work alongside him.”
Valenzuela said he plans to remain active in the community after retirement and looks forward to spending more time with his family.
