Vehicle Bandit Busted Thursday Morning

Early this morning, 25-year-old Roy Franklin Russell was arrested in the 100 block of N Van Buren for burglary of a motor vehicle after being located with stolen property from three different vehicles in the area.

At 6:15 a.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of Rio Grande for a burglary of a motor vehicle in progress.  The caller stated they could see a male subject taking property from their neighbor’s car.  When Police arrived, a witness told the responding officers the subject was last seen running in the 200 block of N Van Buren.  The male subject was located standing under a carport in the 100 block of N Van Buren. Officer P. Garrett made contact with the subject who then ran into the backyard where Officer P Garrett was able to catch up to him and take him into custody.

The male subject was identified as Roy Franklin Russell and had an outstanding county warrant for criminal trespass for his arrest. Officer P. Garrett searched Russell after placing him under arrest and located property not belonging to Russell on his person.  When Russell was located, he had two backpacks in his possession that contained other stolen property. Russell was also in possession of prescription medication for which he did not have a prescription.

From the stolen property located on his person and in the backpacks, Russell was linked to three different vehicle burglaries in the area. Russell was transported to the Tom Green County Jail where he was charged with three burglary of a motor vehicle charges, possession of a dangerous drug, and the county warrant.
