Energy Company Announces Massive Solar Project in Tom Green, Schleicher Counties

SAN ANGELO, TX — A 430-megawatt solar farm capable of powering more than 47,000 homes is planned for Tom Green and Schleicher counties under a new power purchase agreement announced Monday.

The project, called Cold Creek Solar, will be developed by Philadelphia-based and Israeli-owned Doral Renewables, a company that builds and operates large-scale solar and battery storage projects across the United States.

The agreement, made with an unnamed corporate buyer, covers 75 percent of the facility’s energy output and all of its Renewable Energy Credits. The deal raises Doral’s total contracted energy generation to more than 1.6 gigawatts nationwide.

Once complete, the Cold Creek Solar Project will also include a 340-megawatt-hour battery storage system. Doral said the facility will support local infrastructure improvements, such as road upgrades and resources for emergency responders, while creating hundreds of construction jobs and new economic opportunities for local businesses.

“Our ability to work with top companies and utilities is a testament to our business plan and commitment to new renewable energy projects across the United States,” said Sean Boyle, vice president of markets at Doral Renewables.

Doral Renewables operates in 21 states and manages nearly 18 gigawatts of solar and battery storage capacity nationwide.
