WACO, TX — Dominant defense and an unstoppable run game gave the Central Bobcats (3-2) a dominant, 48-6 victory over the Waco Lions (0-5) at halftime on Friday night.
The 'Cats' defense forced three turnovers and three turnovers on downs in four quarters in this ballgame. Tough defense led to short fields, and the offense capitalized with six touchdowns and one special teams touchdown.
Central struck first at the end of the 1st quarter when running back Darius Huitt stiff-armed two Lions to the turf on his way to a 24-yard touchdown. A big-man interception on an attempted screen pass by Central's Brian Sandoval set the Bobcats up inside Waco's 5-yard line on the ensuing possession. Zey Johnson punched the ball into the end zone shortly after giving Central a 14-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter.

Waco finally struck back after that. A broken coverage led to a 63-yard touchdown pass by the Lions. Waco fought to stay in this ballgame, but Central was having none of it.
Following the touchdown, Gavin Johnson took the ensuing kickoff 80+ yards to the house for a kick return touchdown. Any momentum Waco built died after that. Another Waco punt led to a short touchdown run by Elijah Allen as the 2nd quarter wound down.
Central's Troy Ceballos picked off Waco with less than three minutes remaining in the half, but the Bobcats failed to convert on 4th down later in the drive. Both teams headed to the locker room with the Bobcats up big, 28-6.

The Bobcats came out hot in the 3rd quarter with another opening drive touchdown. Micah Smith found Colton Hill in the end zone for the first passing touchdown of the evening to put the 'Cats up 34-6.
The defense smothered Waco for the rest of the game. Waco's best opportunity for another score came on a deep pass that snuck behind the defense. However, a heads-up play by Central's secondary punched the ball out during the tackle. Central recovered and marched down the field for another touchdown by Zey Johnson.
Hill added another touchdown in the fourth quarter to cement the Bobcats' victory. The backups came into the game to get some much-needed experience before the start of district play in a few weeks, and Central claimed victory, 48-6.
