Chevy SUV vs Ford SUV Violence Closes US 277 South of San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A major motor vehicle crash on US 277 south of San Angelo, just before the RM 584 intersection, has snarled traffic, with the highway reduced to one lane in each direction.

A Chevrolet Tahoe appears to have had its left rear wheel and wheel well clipped by a Ford Expedition. Scanner traffic indicated that a female occupant of one of the SUVs was treated for stomach pain caused by her seatbelt. A witness at the scene reported that the injured woman also had burn marks on her arms from airbag deployment.

Based on observations at the crash site, the incident appears to have resulted from an unsafe passing maneuver by one of the SUVs. Further details were provided by officials at the scene. The Chevy Tahoe was pulled over on the side of the road because its driver had run it out of gas. The Expedition, for an unknown reason, veered into the shoulder of the highway and swiped it.

Home Motors, a local towing service, is clearing the wrecked vehicles from the scene, while Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department manages traffic. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash. No life-threatening injuries were observed.
