San Angelo ISD to Vote on Demolition of Sam Houston Campus, New Buses

SAN ANGELO, TX — Demolition of the former Sam Houston campus, the purchase of new student travel buses, and adoption of a class size waiver plan are among the top items on the agenda as San Angelo ISD trustees meet Thursday evening.

The meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. in the SAISD Administration Building board room at 1621 University Ave.

Trustees will consider awarding a $316,460 contract with a $40,000 contingency for demolition of the old Sam Houston building, purchasing two Blue Bird student travel buses for $564,918, and approving the district’s Class Size Waiver Compliance Plan, which is required when K–4 classrooms exceed the state’s 22-to-1 student-teacher ratio limit. The board will also vote on hiring an executive director of human resources, approving the August 2025 bills and financial statement, and authorizing a demography study.

The session will open with an invocation by Executive Pastor Mike Hernandez of Celebration Church and pledges led by Glenmore Elementary students. Trustees will recognize the D.E.S.K. nonprofit organization, United Way’s partnership with San Angelo READS!, and district staff members.

The board will conduct a Finance and Audit Committee workshop and review routine reports on August bills and accounts, investments, July tax collections, and purchasing reports for items over $20,000.

Trustees will hear updates on bond construction, academic programs, personnel, and campus enrollment.

Items include donations to the district, minutes from the Aug. 11 and Aug. 25 meetings, bids for curriculum and instructional materials, carpet installation, paper towels and toilet tissue, and a safety and security audit.

The board’s next pre-agenda workshop is scheduled for Oct. 6, followed by its next regular meeting on Oct. 21.
