Annual Concho Valley Archaeology Fair Set for Sept. 20 at Fort Concho

SAN ANGELO, TX — Families and history enthusiasts are invited to explore centuries of regional heritage at the annual Concho Valley Archaeology Fair, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fort Concho’s Barracks 6.

The event, hosted at the corner of Henry O. Flipper and Burgess streets, is free and open to the public, offering interactive exhibits, educational displays and hands-on activities that highlight the deep historical roots of the Concho Valley.

The event highlights the rich history of the Concho Valley, focusing on the many centuries that predate Fort Concho’s establishment in the late 1800s.

Children can participate in a mock archaeological excavation at the “Clues in the Dirt” exhibit, where they will uncover replica artifacts. Other hands-on stations include:

• Atlatl throwing at a buffalo target

• Painted Pebbles rock art table

• Pinch Pot pottery-making activity

Representatives from the Lubbock Lake Landmark will present displays on Ice Age-era Texas, while staff from San Angelo State Park will offer additional historical exhibits.
