DPS Seizes 80 Pounds of Marijuana in Wichita County

WICHITA FALLS – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Wednesday on US-287, yielding 80 pounds of marijuana valued at over $485,000.

At approximately 12:25 p.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze passenger vehicle traveling southbound on US-287, for a traffic violation, near Iowa Park in Wichita County.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Garrett Micheal Aguilar, 28, of Houston.  During the traffic stop, the trooper called for assistance from the Wichita Falls Police Department K-9 unit.  After a positive K-9 alert for narcotics, the trooper found two duffle bags full of vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana in the trunk.

Aguilar was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana over 50 pounds but less than 2000 pounds, a second degree felony, and booked into the Wichita County Jail.  The marijuana was allegedly being transported from Amarillo to Houston.
