Wall’s Lopez Breaks 17-Year-Old School Record in Cross Country

HAWLEY, TX — Wall High School junior Mckenzie Lopez broke a 17-year-old school record Wednesday at a cross country meet in Hawley.

Lopez completed the two-mile course in a time of 11 minutes, 41 seconds. It clipped the school record of 11:43, which was set by Colleen Adams in 2008, according to Wall head coach Silas Crisler.

Lopez led Wall to a sixth-place finish last year at the Class 3A state cross country meet, where she was 13th in the individual standings in 12:04.

Wall dominated Wednesday’s meet in Hawley with its fourth straight team title, paced by Lopez’s third-place finish. Amelia Taylor was fifth (12:27), Emma Reel was eighth (12:35), Allison Baird was 10th (12:39) and Dailyn Beam was 11th (12:42).

Sterling City freshman Isa McKinnis won the meet in 11:37.
