ASU’s Demetrias Charles Named LSC Defensive Player of the Week

RICHARDSON, TX — Angelo State defensive back Demetrias Charles has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the LSC announced Monday.

Charles, a management major from Channelview, Texas, recorded two interceptions on back-to-back drives during the first quarter of the Rams’ 41-20 win over Emporia State on Saturday. He returned the first pick 21 yards for a touchdown, extending ASU’s lead to 13-0. On the following possession, he intercepted another pass that set up a score, helping the Rams build a 20-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.

The No. 10-ranked Rams improved to 2-0 with the win. Charles also led the team with six tackles.

Angelo State will hit the road again this week, traveling to Portales, New Mexico, to face Eastern New Mexico. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13.
