BRONTE, TX — A dominating performance defined opening night for the Bronte Longhorns on Thursday night. The Santa Anna Mountaineers came to town but could not match the intensity and execution Bronte displayed as the Longhorns 45'd Santa Anna in two quarters to claim victory, 45-0.
Watch Bronte head coach Rocky Rawls' postgame interview below:
The Longhorns' defense controlled the line of scrimmage from start to finish against Santa Anna. From the first drive where Bronte stopped Santa Anna on fourth down to the multiple takeaways the defense forced, the Longhorns never allowed Santa Anna to gain a foothold. In fact, the Mountaineers managed a single first down outside of penalties during the entire contest.
Joel Pena had seven tackles and a fumble recovery to lead the defense.
On offense, Parker Holland was a force in the run game. The young man scored three touchdowns to put Bronte up big early. He added several tough runs that gained more than 15 yards a piece to help continuously push Bronte down the field.
He finished with 16 carries for 143 yards.

In the passing game, Jack Robbins hooked up with Raymond Williams on multiple occasions, including a 20-yard touchdown pass that saw Williams make several Mountaineers miss on his way to the end zone.
Robbins was 5-of-7 passing for 112 yards and a TD — all of which went to Williams.
Overall, it was a great start to the year for the Longhorns. They need to keep this up as they play in a tough district yet again this season.
Bronte returns to action on Friday, Sept. 5, for another home matchup, this time against Rule. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Stephenson Stadium.
