Busted Waterline Cancels Classes at Irion County ISD

MERTZON, TX — Irion County ISD canceled school Wednesday morning after a busted waterline prompted safety concerns, according to district officials.

Students were dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Parents who do not pick up their children by 12:30 p.m. will be directed to the Methodist Church, where students can be picked up at the Life Center.

District officials said students who remained until regular dismissal would ride the bus as usual. All on-campus extracurricular activities were canceled, but off-campus activities will continue as planned.

The Irion County Sheriff’s Office shared the district’s notice, confirming the closure for Aug. 20, 2025.
