13-Year-Old Charged in Texas Shooting That Killed Brother

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A 13-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter after authorities say he fatally shot his 14-year-old brother in northeast Harris County.

The shooting happened just after midnight on July 4 at a home on Gianna Springs Court near Atascocita Road, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Precinct 4 responded and found the 14-year-old with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Gonzalez said the 13-year-old was playing with a rifle when it unintentionally discharged, striking his brother. A 17-year-old sister was also present at the time.

It remains unclear how the children obtained the rifle or whether any adults could face charges. The investigation is ongoing.
