FORT WORTH, TX — Tennis standout Lui Maxted and women’s basketball star Hailey Van Lith have been named TCU’s nominees for the 2024-25 Big 12 Athlete of the Year awards, the conference announced Tuesday as part of its ongoing series highlighting top student-athletes from across the league.
Each Big 12 institution nominated one male and one female athlete based on performance, academic achievement, and overall impact during the 2024-25 academic year. Winners will be announced Thursday, July 24.
Maxted, a senior from Worthing, England, played a pivotal role in helping the Horned Frogs reach the national championship match and capture their ninth Big 12 title. He finished the year as the NCAA Doubles Champion, earned All-America honors in both singles and doubles, and was ranked No. 1 in the final ITA doubles rankings. A standout in the classroom as well, Maxted was named to the CSC Academic All-America First Team and graduated in May with a degree in economics.
Van Lith, a graduate student from Wenatchee, Washington, made an immediate impact in her first season at TCU. She earned Big 12 Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors after leading the Horned Frogs to their first-ever Big 12 regular-season and tournament championships. She was named Most Outstanding Player of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship and became the first player in women’s college basketball history to guide three different programs to the Elite Eight.
Her postseason accolades included honors from the AP, WBCA, USBWA, and the Wooden Award committee. Van Lith was selected 11th overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft and maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA, earning Academic All-Big 12 and CSC Academic All-District recognition. She also represented Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and was named USA Basketball’s 3x3 Female Athlete of the Year.
