High-Speed Crash in Carlsbad Closes US 87

SAN ANGELO, TX — A high-speed crash on US 87 in Carlsbad, near the State School, temporarily closed most lanes of the highway as first responders managed the scene.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) led the crash investigation, while the Carlsbad Volunteer Fire Department and Tom Green County Sheriff’s deputies directed traffic around debris scattered across the southbound lanes.

Preliminary reports and the debris field suggest the crash involved two vehicles, though only one was visible during the DPS investigation. Radio communications indicated two individuals were injured.

The crash happened on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 9:55 p.m. The crash scene was cleared by midnight.
