San Angelo Residents Asked to Sort Storm Debris, Report Damage to Help Federal Aid Efforts

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo officials are asking residents in flood-affected areas to properly sort storm debris and report property damage, stressing that these steps are critical for cleanup efforts and for the state to seek federal disaster assistance.

“Sorting properly is required by FEMA,” stated Brian Groves, communications director for the City of San Angelo. City crews will begin collecting bagged household trash and perishables at the curb starting Monday, July 7.

Non-household debris, such as furniture and construction materials, must be separated and properly placed at the curb. Pickup for these materials is expected to begin in about a week through a FEMA-compliant debris management contractor. Unsorted debris will not be collected.

There are no plans for a centralized debris drop-off site, and the city landfill remains closed to the public until further notice.

Residents are also encouraged to report property damage through the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). You can find that HERE.

Groves noted that filling out the iSTAT form does not guarantee assistance or reimbursement, nor is it a substitute for filing insurance claims. Instead, it helps local and state officials assess damage levels and supports the state’s request for federal disaster assistance, which could make residents eligible for FEMA aid if a disaster is declared.
