NEW YORK, NY — A federal jury has found music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs guilty on two felony charges related to prostitution but acquitted him of the more serious allegations of racketeering and sex trafficking in a closely watched trial featuring explosive testimony.
Combs, 55, was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, one involving singer Cassie Ventura and the other involving a woman identified as "Jane", as well as commercial sex workers. Each conviction carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison.
The jury acquitted Combs on three charges, including:
-
Racketeering conspiracy, which could have carried a maximum life sentence;
-
Two separate counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, involving Ventura and “Jane,” both of which carried a minimum 15-year sentence and a maximum of life.
The trial revealed disturbing details about alleged events referred to as “Freak Offs,” in which Combs was accused of pressuring women into sexual acts with other men. While the jury did not find sufficient evidence to convict on the most severe charges, the guilty verdicts mark a significant legal blow to the influential producer and entrepreneur.
Combs, who has denied all allegations, faces up to a maximum of 20 years in prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
