BRONTE, TX — Rocky Rawls, who coached the Bronte High School boys basketball team for 40 years, has come out of retirement to serve as the head coach for the school’s football team.
The news was first reported by Big Country Blitz.
Rawls is filling the position that has been vacant since Bryce Meador left at the end of the school year.
Rawls was the Longhorns’ basketball coach from 1983 until 2023, winning 760 games during his career. His win total was among the top 60 high school coaches in the nation in 2022, according to Maxpreps.
Rawls led Bronte to four state finals. He became the school’s athletic director in 2011.
Rawls was also a longtime assistant football coach for Bronte. He took over as the head football coach in 2023 and led the team to a 4-8 record, which included a first-round playoff win.
