COKE COUNTY, TX — A 2-year-old girl who went missing near the Coke County line early Thursday morning has been found safe after an extensive multi-agency search, according to the Winters Volunteer Fire Department.
The child was reported missing around 12:15 a.m., prompting a coordinated response from Texas DPS, Coke and Runnels County sheriff’s deputies, multiple volunteer fire departments including Wingate, Robert Lee, and Bronte, West Coke County EMS, the Texas Rangers, and others. Search crews combed thick brush on foot and by air using helicopters, drones, and a K-9 unit.
Around 8:30 a.m., a helicopter spotted the toddler, who was found stuck in a mud hole more than half a mile from her home, according to a social media post by her father. Rescuers quickly reached her location and began treatment for dehydration and numerous bug bites.
“She is safe and currently receiving medical attention accompanied by her family,” the Winters Volunteer Fire Department stated.
The father expressed gratitude to the searchers and the public for their support, saying, “I can’t begin to thank everyone that helped.”
