DEL RIO, Texas – Uvalde Border Patrol agents arrested a Mexican national wanted by authorities in Mexico for homicide, said a U.S. Border Patrol press release Friday.
“This apprehension demonstrates the bi-lateral cooperation between our governments to bring criminals to justice,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodolfo Karish. “I thank our agents for their hard work and vigilance for keeping these types of criminals out of our communities.
According to the press release, at approximately 11 p.m. on Sept. 21, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Uvalde Station arrested Francisco Carmona-Valdez, 51, a Mexican national in a smuggling attempt. Carmona-Valdez attempted to escape the agents by scaling a fence. The national injured his right ankle in the process, so agents provided the man with first aid and he was taken to the University Hospital in San Antonio for medical treatment.
Additionally, on Sept. 30, upon his release from the hospital, agents discovered through a criminal record check that Carmona-Valdez had an active warrant for homicide from Mexico. Mexican law enforcement officials confirmed his warrant, and the national will be extradited. Records also showed that Carmona Valdez had been previously deported from the United States.
