COAHOMA, Texas — Coahoma High School senior Hannah Wells was named the 2025 Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year on Wednesday, just two days after being recognized as the Texas Gatorade Player of the Year.
Wells, a 6-foot right-hander who has signed with the University of Texas, helped lead Coahoma to its third consecutive Class 3A state championship, making the program the first in Texas to win three straight softball titles at that level.
She batted .602 with a nation-leading 31 home runs, 75 RBIs, and 54 runs scored. In the circle, Wells went 22-1 with a 0.49 ERA and recorded 258 strikeouts over 127.2 innings. Opponents hit just .112 against her.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program honors one national winner in each of 12 high school sports, recognizing athletic excellence, academic achievement, and character.
Wells now turns her sights to collegiate softball, where she will join a Longhorn's roster coming off the program's first-ever National Championship. Texas defeated Texas Tech in three games earlier in June.
