San Angelo LIVE! will be hosting the “It’s A-LIVE!” scary writing contest for area high school students and will be accepting electronic submissions from Oct. 1, 2015 through Oct. 27, 2015. On Oct. 28, our staff will choose three winners who will not only receive cash prizes, but will also have their work published on San Angelo LIVE! from Oct. 29 through Oct. 31.
Here are the guidelines for the contest:
- The story has to be scary and/or suspenseful.
- The word minimum is 350, and the maximum, 1,200.
- The story can be fictional, semi-fictional or non-fiction.
- The story has to take place in San Angelo or the surrounding area.
- The story should be free of explicit sexual content and/or language. Please keep things professional.
- The story should appeal to the San Angelo LIVE! audience.
- The story should be typed with a 12-point Times New Roman font and saved in a Word .doc or .docs file. Students can single space their documents and add an extra space between paragraphs.
- The file should include a cover letter with an original title for the story, the writer’s name, school, grade and word count. Students, parents or educators can send story submissions to [email protected].
Writing, no matter what genre, should be about story telling. We are looking for stories that engage the reader without a lot of unnecessary or fluff words. There should be a beginning, middle and end, and the story should leave the audience with that “Wow!” effect. More importantly, we want students to have fun and let their writing creativity shine. Getting published in a print or online medium is a great way to kick start a career as a writer or journalist, so good luck!
