Grandmother Starts GoFundMe for Teen After Fatal Shooting

SAN ANGELO, TX— A GoFundMe has been started for the 16-year-old that was shot and killed at a party in San Angelo last weekend.

Shannon Newsome, the teen's grandmother, has started a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses.

The GoFundMe states:

Hello, my name is Shannon Newsome,

I am coming to ask for help from my friends, family, and the public. My grandson was murdered on May 24, 2025, at 4:45 a.m. He was taken from our family way too soon. He was a 16-year-old young man who thought he knew all there was to know about the world.

He had many friends that loved and cared for him. There was never a dull moment when he was around.

We are a small family of four. I am the grandmother, and all my kids are incarcerated. I am all alone and cannot afford the costs of a funeral. Any contribution will be so greatly appreciated.

I wish I didn’t have to ask, and I wish it was under different circumstances. I would like to thank you in advance for your love and support. The fund will be used to pay for funeral arrangements and cremation.

I want to thank everyone that has donated. My family is struggling with all of this so please let’s be respectful.

Thank You

According to reports, the teenager was shot and killed by 17-year-old Derek Carson in the alley of Bermuda Drive. Carson was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail and is being held on $500,000 bond.
