WATCH: San Angelo ISD Students Can Choose Virtual Learning or Return to Class

SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo Independent School District officials announced Thursday the all-virtual learning platform they will be using called Edgenuity.

In a live video hosted by SAISD superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff and other members of SAISD the group gave an update of the upcoming school year.

The video started with Dr. Dethloff ensuring parents that they will have the decision on whether or not their child will be attending in-person or virtual instrution. He also said that they are finding ways to make sure every student will have a device as well as adequate WiFi.

The next thing discussed was the digital platform. Edgenuity is the curriculum that SAISD has picked. This platform will have everything a student needs to learn from home including activities and a virtual teacher. If a student selects the online education they can only get back to in-person after the nine week period.

The main topic about in-person education was the ability to social distance. SAISD says that students above the fourth grade will be required to wear a face mask while passing through the halls. Cafeterias, switching classes, arriving, departing, and bus rides are all being restructured at this moment.

Although there are still a number of uncertainties about the upcoming semester one thing that is positive is that SAISD is giving students the choice.

"We believe in choice here in San Angelo," said Dr. Dethloff. "That's why we have the virtual academy to help you make a decision based on the health and wellness of your family."
