WATCH: Midland Lee
MIDLAND, TX -- The 6-1 vote by the Midland ISD School Board on July 27 to rename Robert E. Lee High School came as a shock to many since the school district did not involve the Midland community.
Since then MISD has appointed a citizens committee to come up with a new name for the high school and freshman campus, both formerly named after Robert E. Lee.
On Saturday, members of the Midland community gathered in the parking lot of Midland Lee High School to protest the name change and to sign petitions for possible ways to retain the brand of Midland Lee High School.
Watch as Midlanders and some of their Odessa Permian rivals talk about the legacy of Midland Lee High School and what it would mean to much of the city of Midland to have Lee removed from the name of the high school.

AGREE with all of the sentiments! The majority are not being given their choice or their vote in changing their very own school history.....that is how they will all remember their time in school, sports, etc forever in the future! It is NOT right to change as a result of a bully bunch demanding their PC way or because a few city council members made such a major decision to change the history of a school, town, county and even surrounding communitites which have a sports history between the schools!!! PUT IT TO A VOTE if you think enough people will support the change.....NOT! The council won't do that because they know how the community at large feels! STOP YIELDING TO THE POLITICALLY CORRECT, WOKE, CANCEL CULTURE BULLIES.....THEY ARE MAINLY JUST SEEING HOW MUCH POWER THEY CAN WIELD OVER OTHERS AND TESTING JUST HOW MUCH MORE THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH!
We are having the same issue in San Angelo with a Jr. High School. Shireen Jackson, San Angelo, TX.
