KERRVILLE, TX — The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed one fatality related to flooding on July 16 in the Center Point area.
The person was recovered in the Center Point vicinity. Officials said the name and other information will not be released until next of kin notifications are complete.
The confirmation came as first responders continued water rescue operations amid major flooding along the Guadalupe River and its tributaries in Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville and Center Point. All campers at Kerr County camps have been confirmed safe.
The river reached major flood stage in Kerrville and Center Point, with the gauge at Center Point rising to 37 feet just before 6 a.m. Moderate flood stage was reported in Hunt. Officials warned that conditions are changing rapidly and another rise remains possible.
Travel through Kerr County is hazardous due to debris on roadways and roads that remain flooded. Residents in low-lying areas near the river who have not evacuated should seek higher ground immediately and call 911. Drivers are urged not to drive around barricades or through flooded roads and to keep roadways clear for emergency vehicles.
Three shelters have been opened for people displaced from their homes:
- Calvary Temple, 3000 TX-534 Loop in Kerrville (also serving as a reunification center)
- City West Church, 3139 Junction Highway in Ingram
- Center Point ISD Gymnasium, 215 China St. in Center Point
