AUSTIN, TX — Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Friday the results of a new study showing United States military installations contribute an estimated $148.8 billion to the Texas economy and support more than 628,000 jobs statewide.

According to the study, Texas’ military installations support 212,524 direct jobs and a total of 628,884 direct and indirect jobs.

“The tradition of military service is long in our great state,” Abbott said. “Texas is proud to be home to 15 major U.S. military installations and the Army Transformation and Training Command headquarters. Essential to the defense of our nation, each installation also serves as a major local employer and provides tremendous value to communities across Texas.”

The study analyzed the economic impact of people and employees directly connected to military installations across the state. The report included active-duty service members, civilian employees, contractors, dependents and other personnel affiliated with each installation.

According to the 2025-26 economic impact analysis, Texas military installations provide:

  • 212,524 direct jobs
  • 628,884 total direct and indirect jobs
  • $148.8 billion in economic output

Abbott said the state will continue working with military communities to support service members and strengthen Texas’ role in national defense.

“Texas is proud to partner with our military communities to ensure our state remains the best home for the men and women of the greatest military in the world,” Abbott said.

The Texas Military Preparedness Commission, which operates within the Office of the Governor, advises state leaders on defense and military issues. The commission also works with military communities to support infrastructure, resiliency and mission readiness while preparing for any future Base Realignment and Closure actions.

State officials said those efforts are designed to help maintain and strengthen Texas’ military presence while supporting service members and their families.
