Concho Valley Aviation Helps Locate Missing Giraffe That Went Viral

SAN ANGELO, TX — A Sterling City-based aviation company assisted in locating Gracie, the giraffe who had been missing from a Hill Country ranch for several days and sparked a viral online search.

Concho Valley Aviation pilot Jeff Hill spotted the animal early Friday morning during an aerial search about 4 miles south of Cedar Hollow Ranch in Real County, Real County Sheriff Nathan T. Johnson reported.

Vick Jones of Cedar Hollow Ranch, where Gracie lives, was working with Hill on the search. Jones has since contacted his veterinarian and is putting together a team to safely capture the giraffe and return her home, Johnson stated.

The Real County Animal Rescue-Shelter reported Gracie missing on June 22. Her owner had offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to her safe return. She was last seen on a game camera west of Leakey.

The search for Gracie quickly gained attention across Texas, with many false claims posted online by fire departments, police agencies, businesses and others saying the giraffe had been spotted in their areas.
