AUSTIN, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety announced the launch of Operation Safe Summer, a coordinated initiative to increase patrols in high-traffic pedestrian areas across several major cities.
The operation will focus on central corridors in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth, aiming to enhance public safety and deter criminal activity during the busy summer months.
“This summer is particularly special for Texas, as we welcome millions of visitors for a variety of events — including the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” DPS Director Freeman F. Martin said. “Under Operation Safe Summer, DPS is proactively responding to the anticipated influx of tourists and crowds, offering support to our local law enforcement partners to ensure all events taking place this summer, and the areas around them, remain safe, secure and enjoyable for residents and visitors alike.”
DPS officials said the agency will partner with local police departments in each city to provide expanded patrol coverage in areas expected to draw large crowds, including stadiums, entertainment districts and concert venues.
Troopers will be assigned to locations with elevated pedestrian activity, with an emphasis on maintaining a visible and consistent presence to support safety and order.
Officials said patrol strategies may be adjusted as needed based on crowd sizes, event schedules and real-time public safety conditions.
