Search Continues for Missing Elderly Woman at Enchanted Rock

FREDERICKSBURG, TX — The search for a missing 81-year-old woman at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area continued Wednesday morning, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The woman reportedly became lost on the Loop Trail about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Texas State Park Police Officers, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area staff, Texas Game Wardens, Willow City Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Fredericksburg Fire/EMS and other regional first responders searched for the missing woman until after dark when significant storms moved into the area, making it unsafe to continue.

TPWD staff remained on site late into the night to attempt aerial searches, but weather continued to hinder efforts. Local, non-essential resources were released ahead of the storm Tuesday night but relieved staff this morning to continue the search.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, which sits on the border of Llano and Gillespie counties, is a popular site for hikers. Its signature feature is its namesake hill, a 425-pink granite dome.

It can be dangerous, however, as evidenced by an injured hiker requiring a rescue May 2 after having to spend the night in the park.
