16-Year-Old Seminole Boy Dies After Drowning at Lake J.B. Thomas

 

IRA, TX — A 16-year-old boy from Seminole died after a drowning at Lake J.B. Thomas in Scurry County, authorities reported. 

Deputies with the Scurry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the reported drowning around 4:25 p.m. Saturday at 13509 County Road 5 in Ira. The victim was recovered from the water and given emergency medical care at the scene. 

Scurry County EMS transported him to Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder. He was later flown by AirLIFE TEXAS to Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock, the sheriff’s office said. 

Despite lifesaving efforts, the boy was pronounced deceased Sunday at about 6 a.m., according to the office. 

The Scurry County Sheriff’s Office extended its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by the loss. 

Officials thanked the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Scurry County EMS, Snyder Fire Department, AirLIFE TEXAS, Colorado River Municipal Water District and numerous civilian responders who assisted.

No further information was being released at this time out of respect for the family, the office stated.
