AUSTIN, TX — Texas produced 122,624,974 barrels of crude oil in January 2026, according to preliminary figures released by the Railroad Commission of Texas.
The statewide total came from 154,772 oil wells and averaged 3,955,644 barrels per day. Natural gas production reached 1,024,556,148 thousand cubic feet from 83,365 gas wells, averaging 33,050,198 mcf per day.
Crude oil figures reported by the RRC cover only production from oil leases and do not include condensate, which is reported separately.
The preliminary January 2026 crude oil total was below the updated January 2025 figure of 143,693,486 barrels. Natural gas production also trailed the prior year’s updated total of 1,111,604,609 mcf.
Martin County led the state in crude oil production with 20,275,627 barrels. It was followed by Midland County at 17,634,765 barrels, Upton County at 8,913,369 barrels, Loving County at 7,835,296 barrels and Reeves County at 5,672,062 barrels.
Webb County ranked first in total gas production (gas well gas and casinghead) with 89,902,671 mcf. Reeves County was second at 86,185,087 mcf, followed by Midland County, Martin County and Panola County.
Reeves County also led condensate production with 6,507,198 barrels, ahead of Loving County and Culberson County. The figures are preliminary and based on operator reports. They will be updated as late and corrected production reports are received.
