Texas Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in Hale County

HALE COUNTY, TX — A 63-year-old Bovina man died Wednesday following a single-vehicle rollover crash on State Highway 194, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred around 5:12 p.m. about a half-mile east of County Road J. DPS said a 2012 Ford F-150 towing a trailer was traveling westbound when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway and entered the north barrow ditch. The driver overcorrected, causing the truck to skid across the highway and into the south ditch before rolling into a field.

The driver, identified as Pedro Rocha Carpio, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the rollover, investigators said. He was transported to Covenant Hospital in Plainview, where he later died from his injuries.

The weather at the time of the crash was clear, and the road conditions were dry. The investigation remains ongoing.
