Falling Gas Demand and Seasonal Fuel Switch Signal More Relief at the Pump

SAN ANGELO, TX - The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.71 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

That price is four cents less when compared to this day last week and is nine cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.86 per gallon while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.49 per gallon.

In San Angelo, drivers are paying an average of $2.61 per gallon, down 25 cents from last week and 35 cents lower than this time last year, according to AAA Texas.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.11, which is five cents less when compared to this day last week and nine cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.

According to the Energy Information Administration, demand for gasoline has fallen to a four-month low, contributing to the continued decline in pump prices. With the third quarter of 2025 ending in higher gasoline inventories and the seasonal transition from summer-grade to winter-grade fuel, consumers are likely to see even lower prices at the pump in the coming weeks.

“Drivers are getting some welcome relief at the pump as gasoline demand falls to its lowest level in months,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “With the switch to more affordable winter-blend fuel and higher gasoline inventories, pump prices are likely to keep trending lower in the coming weeks — good news for Texans hitting the road this fall.”
