Pipeline Project to Link West Texas Gas to Gulf Coast Moves Forward

MIDLAND, TX — Construction of a new natural gas pipeline carrying fuel from West Texas’ Permian Basin to the Gulf Coast is set to move forward after backers announced they reached a final investment decision.

The Eiger Express Pipeline, a joint venture between WhiteWater, MPLX LP, ONEOK Inc. and Enbridge Inc., will span about 450 miles and transport up to 2.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day to the Katy area, west of Houston. WhiteWater said Monday the decision followed securing sufficient long-term transportation agreements with investment-grade shippers.

Supply for the pipeline will come from multiple connections in the Permian Basin, including gas processing facilities in the Midland Basin and the Delaware Basin via the Agua Blanca Pipeline, a venture between WhiteWater, Enbridge and MPLX.

Ownership of the Eiger Express will be divided 70 percent by the Matterhorn joint venture — itself composed of WhiteWater, MPLX and Enbridge — along with 15 percent each by ONEOK and MPLX. The pipeline will be constructed and operated by WhiteWater and is expected to be in service by mid-2028, pending regulatory approvals.
