Flooding in Sonora Leads to 3 Water Rescues

 

SONORA, TX — Flooding in Sonora early Sunday morning required three water rescues and an evacuation alert, but no fatalities or injuries have been reported.

Sutton County Judge Joseph Harris and Sonora Mayor Juanita Gomez each issued emergency disaster declarations.

The City of Sonora announced that an emergency call came in about 5 a.m. Sunday for a resident whose home was rapidly flooding.

Emergency personnel from the Sonora Volunteer Fire Department and other local responders quickly responded to the scene and successfully rescued the individual from her home.

Two other water rescues were conducted by local emergency teams that morning.

About 20 individuals utilized the Civic Center in Sonora until they could return home.

Residents who experienced flood-related damage to their homes or property are strongly encouraged to self-report through the Texas Division of Emergency Management’s ISTAT Damage Assessment Portal. This information helps determine eligibility for future state or federal assistance.

The City of Sonora also urged all residents to sign up for emergency alerts through its Nixle notification system to stay informed about ongoing or future emergency events.
