KERRVILLE, TX — President Donald Trump toured flood-ravaged Kerr County on Friday, days after historic July Fourth flooding left at least 120 people dead and dozens still missing.
Air Force One touched down at Kelly Field at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland shortly after noon before the president and first lady Melania Trump traveled by Marine One to survey damage across Kerrville, Ingram and Hunt. The tour included additional Osprey aircraft carrying support staff and journalists.
“This is a once-in-every-200-year deal,” Trump said in an interview Thursday with NBC News. He pledged full federal support for Texas and said he delayed visiting immediately so as not to burden rescue efforts still underway.
The president's itinerary included an aerial inspection of the hardest-hit areas and a roundtable with local officials and first responders, scheduled for 2:10 p.m. Friday. KENS5.com planned to livestream the event.
The Trump administration has faced criticism over past statements suggesting it would reduce the role of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). However, in the wake of the flood, officials have emphasized the scale and human cost of the disaster over broader policy goals.
Melania Trump accompanied her husband on the trip, marking her second visit to a natural disaster zone during his term.
