Death Toll Surpasses 100 in Texas Flooding

KERRVILLE, TX — The death toll from the catastrophic flooding across Texas reached at least 106 by Tuesday morning as rescue teams continue their searches.

About 40 people still remain unaccounted for across the state.

Kerr County has been the hardest hit with 87 bodies recovered, including 30 children. At Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp, there were 27 campers and counselors killed, with five girls and a counselor still missing.

Nineteen additional deaths have been confirmed in Travis, Burnet, Kendall, Tom Green and Williamson counties.

The flooding began in the early morning hours of July 4, overwhelming people while they slept as the Guadalupe River in the Hill Country rose more than 30 feet in less than two hours.

On Monday, a private drone collided with a rescue helicopter, forcing the helicopter to make an emergency landing while knocking it out of service.

Officials had already urged the public to avoid flying drones in the area.
